A lot of progress has been made in Wisconsin during the past four years. The following are cities where Breed Discriminatory Legislation was either overturned or rejected. Thank you for standing up and speaking out. Implementing and enforcing breed-neutral ordinances that punish reckless owners will make our Wisconsin communities safer.
There have been three fatalities from dog bites in the last five years in Wisconsin. All have involved children. August 2010 - 4 year old Taylor Becker of Hustiford, Dodge County dies from injuries from a male Boxer March 2013 - 14 month old Daxton Borchardt of Walworth, Walworth County dies from injuries from a female and male Boxer/Pitbull mix (identified by vet records) October 2014 - 7 year old Logan Meyer of Hustisford, Dodge County , dies from injuries from a male Rottweiler Our condolences go out to the families of these children for their tragic losses. Jeff Borchardt, father of Daxton Borchardt, and founder of Daxton's Friends - an anti-pit bull terrier organization masking as a canine education and awareness website, wrote the following essay after the death of his child. We felt it was important to share it with you here so that you can form your own opinions about the rationality and credibility of his character. He chooses to blame everyone else for the death of his son, except for himself and the owners of the dogs, whom he chose to babysit his toddler. You can read more of Jeff Borchardt's social media posts including his threat to poison people's dogs with antifreeze by clicking here.
The City of Milwaukee discriminates against dogs that are one half or more American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Terrier, American Pitbull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Miniature Bull Terrier and Rottweilers.
Some people feel that this is a suitable "compromise". These breeds and breed mixes are not banned from the City of Milwaukee. Instead, owners are unfairly targeted to costly and unreasonable requirements while other dog owners are exempt. You can read detailed information on the requirements of the City of Milwaukee's ordinance by clicking here. Please remember that there is NO compromise when it comes to Breed Discriminatory Legislation (BDL, sometimes called BSL). You don't halfways discriminate against someone or something. Discrimination is discrimination. Accepting breed restrictions as a compromise will NOT make the community safer - it is STILL BDL and does not protect the community from reckless owners. Please do not allow yourself to be swayed by the argument that this is a suitable compromise. Would Rosa Parks have been content to sit in the middle of the bus? November is an important month for television stations. It is when program ratings (audience viewership) are measured and advertising rates are set. Creating hype regarding a news story is a typical practice for news programming to use to gain viewership. These hyped promos are often played ad nauseum in the days and hours prior to the newscast.
Such is the case for a news segment that is set to air on Monday in Milwaukee on CBS 58. The promo piece describes what will be an interview with Jeff Borchardt, father of Daxton Borchardt, a young boy who was tragically killed in a dog attack in Walworth County in March 2013. The promo only shows one side of the debate, pictures a menacing dog in a prong collar, and does not indicate that there will be any balance to the piece whatsoever. This is shoddy journalism at best. What can you do? Turn your television OFF. Do not engage, do not watch, do not record. Do not give them the boost in viewership that they are expecting from this story. And then on Tuesday, politely email them and express your concerns. Here is their contact page.http://www.cbs58.com/story/26835466/contact-us We have written about Jeff Borchardt in the past. If you need to refresh your memory here is the link to a previous blog with the complete police report attached. Since his son's death, he has lost all perspective on the issue of breed discriminatory legislation. He now advocates for killing pit bull terriers as can be seen in the following screen shots. He is a disc jockey by trade. His screen name in the first screen shot of a Facebook post is Mix Master Bogart. He lives in East Troy, Wisconsin. Jeff Borchardt is also the founder of Daxton's Friends, an anti- pit bull terrier organization trying to mask themselves as a "canine education and awareness" group. These two screenshots are only the tip of the iceberg of the hatred and filth that Borchardt spews continually on the internet. That CBS 58 would consider him a credible source for a news story is beyond comprehension. At Wisconsin Voters for Companion Animals we oppose Breed Discriminatory Legislation and support Breed Neutral Dangerous Dog Legislation which keeps our communities safe from reckless owners of dangerous dogs. We are happy to report that due to your overwhelming response, Blue Buffalo Dog Food had their ad removed from the Animals 24/7 website today. Animals 24/7 is the website of Merritt Clifton, known pit bull hater and supporter of Breed Discrimination. You can read more about Meritt Clifton from the Huffington Post here and from the KC Dog Blog here. The Blue Buffalo ad has been replaced by an ad for the Helen Woodward Animal Center out of Rancho Santa Fe, California. Apparently, they have also asked to have their ad removed. We will update this blog again if and when that happens. Please take a few minutes to thank Blue Buffalo for their response today. It should be noted that several requests to remove the ad were made privately, in case it had merely been an oversight on their part. When they did not respond, a more public approach was taken. You can thank Blue Buffalo via email, mail or telephone. Their contact information is at this link: http://bluebuffalo.com/contact/ You can also leave a message on their Facebook page by clicking here: https://www.facebook.com/BlueBuffaloAllNaturalPetFood Thank you to everyone who speaks out against Breed Discrimination. You are making a difference! If you know of other Wisconsin businesses or products sold in Wisconsin that discriminate against breeds of dogs, please email them to us at [email protected]. We will be happy to share them! Great news and a response from Blue Buffalo! Please read update by clicking here:
http://www.wivotersforcompanionanimals.com/blog/update-on-blue-buffalo-dog-food-ad Blue Buffalo has built a name for themselves by producing high quality dog food. Unfortunately, they have now tarnished their reputation by linking themselves to the anti-pit bull terrier crowd through advertising on a website that actively supports breed discrimination (pictured above). Blue Buffalo Dog Food gets a big THUMBS DOWN from us. There are plenty of other high quality dog food that do NOT support breed discrimination. If you are unhappy with Blue Buffalo's support of breed discrimination please email, telephone or write to Blue Buffalo. Their contact information is at this link: http://bluebuffalo.com/contact/ You can also leave a polite message on their Facebook page by clicking here: https://www.facebook.com/BlueBuffaloAllNaturalPetFood If you know of other Wisconsin businesses or products sold in Wisconsin that discriminate against breeds of dogs, please email them to us at [email protected]. We will be happy to share them. |
