Maddie and Mark Buchda started this petition in December 2013, because their two dogs, Diesel (on the left) and Thor(on the right), had to be relocated from the Village of Fall River, Dodge County, Wisconsin, due to their appearance. Police were informed that they had “pit bull type dogs.” Fall River has Breed Discriminatory Legislation (BDL) targeting pit bull terriers or those dogs that look like pit bull terriers. Maddie and Mark received several citations and were told that if they did not relocate Diesel and Thor immediately, they would continue to receive citations and fines. Diesel and Thor did not hurt anyone, or cause any kind of issues in the community. Their only fault… their looks. They had to be relocated solely based on their appearance.
This picture was taken during the family's weekly visit together. Maddie and Mark's family is torn apart. They are missing two members of their family, and feel like a hole has been ripped in their hearts. Diesel and Thor are being kept in a kennel type situation which is difficult on them since they're used to soft beds, cuddles and human companionship. Maddie and Mark would love to have Diesel and Thor home in time for Christmas.
As time has gone on, Maddie and Mark have found two other families who live in Fall River, who have similar stories. They have also had to relocate their beloved family dogs due to their appearance.
