Great news, Wisconsinites! SB97/AB141’s crawl towards passage turned into handsprings on Tuesday February 9, 2016. The bill, which allows pets to be included on domestic violence protection orders, passed out of the Assembly and is on its way to Governor Walker’s desk for his signature. Once signed by Gov. Walker into law, Wisconsin will become the 29th state to offer this critical protection to victims, their families and beloved pets.
Rep. Jacque Frank (R- DePere), the state assemblyman who co-authored the bill with Sen. Tim Carpenter (D -Milwaukee), shared his reaction: “I am elated that the protections for victims and companion animals within this legislation will remove one more element of manipulation, intimidation and retaliation that abusers wield over their victims. This very meaningful change is long overdue, and vital to implement.”
